What is a Power Cycle?
A Power Cycle is usually the first step in troubleshooting.
A power cycle includes powering a device off and then back on again.
A full power cycle involves rebooting your Sky Angel box, router (if applicable),
and modem.
Why Would I Power Cycle?
There are many reasons to power cycle:
- Refreshing Equipment
- Freezing Issues
- Re-establish Network Connectivity
- Buffering
Like computers or other devices, the STB sometimes needs to be "refreshed".
This is accomplished by power the Sky Angel box off and back on again.
Power cycling can correct freezing issues
If the box is frozen it may be non-responsive to the power button on the remote
or the button on the front of the box.
I
n this situation use the power switch on the back for a power cycle.
A power cycle can restore network connectivity.
The STB may have lost network connectivity if DHCP is failing (LQ 0/100 if wireless)
The internet may be down if your internet connection isn't working on your computer
either
A full power cycle could correct either of these situations.
Power cycling can help correct buffering
Power cycling can (as mentioned above) refresh the network connection and normalize
the connetion speed in case it has dropped.
The STB may get caught in a "buffer-loop" where it continually buffers.
A full power cycle could correct either of these situations.
How Do I Perform A Full Power Cycle?
Power cycling your equipment is easy!
Some devices have a power button on them that will allow you to turn them on
and off easily, other devices must simply be unplugged.
If you are only power cycling one device it is advisable to leave that device powered
down for about 30 seconds, then power it back on.
If you are wanting to perform a full power cycle follow the steps below:
Powering Off Equipment
- Power off the Set Top Box
- Power off the Router (if you have one)
- Power off the Modem

After you perform these steps all the devices should be powered down.
(If you have a cable modem, disconnect the coax cable for a few seconds then reconnect
it)
Powering Equipment On
- Power on the Modem
- Power on the Router (if you have one)
- Power on the Set Top Box
